Upper Yough Expeditions is a Maryland company, based in Friendsville, Maryland, that takes pride in showing our guests all that the Upper Youghiogheny has to offer.  And boy does it have a lot to offer. The Upper Yough (pronounced YOCK) is the hidden gem of eastern whitewater. The Upper Youghiogheny River is a designated Wild and Scenic River.

This section of river is protected to preserve its wild beauty and rugged untamed environment. The beauty of this steep river gorge is awesome, but the whitewater is better yet. Upper Yough Expeditions was a pioneer on the Upper Yough.

We were among the first commercially licensed outfitters offering fully guided rafting services on the Upper Yough. This intense Class V run is dam controlled and provides an amazing whitewater experience from Spring through Fall. While many rivers can only offer Class V in the Spring when water abounds, the Upper can offer it even in the hot steamy days of July.

The Upper Yough is run in accordance with the dam release schedule from Deep Creek Lake.  The Upper runs on Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays. It is a fast, tight, steep run that is done only in small rafts (or kayaks for private boaters) of 1 to 3 guests plus the guide.
